Evidence-based Research
Our research agenda is women in Islam, Health, and the Law
To improve our intervention strategies and contribute to a continuous learning process within our communities and within the broader networks within which ARF may interact, we gather information on communities in which ARF is active and document and reflect on our work as well as undertaking research on relevant local government and development topics. ARF therefore undertakes assessments at the community level, using participation and tools such as those provided by the suitable livelihoods framework, to produce the baseline information that informs ARF’s interventions as well as to help community leaders understand the community’s problems, needs, and aspirations.
Training
We have a dedicated training center to support our onsite training programs, located in Kampala, Uganda. The center coordinates all training and capacity-building activities which include programs to empower Muslim women with the knowledge and skills to navigate the legal system effectively and their human rights. This may include sessions on legal literacy, self-advocacy, accessing legal resources, understanding court procedures, and skill transfer short courses in different disciplines based on key IWILAP research areas. IWILAP currently has four short training courses; Law & leadership Institute; Health, Law and Islam Seminar; Law & SRHR Institute for Muslim Female Lawyers; and Islam, gender equality and Justice Institute.
